Kaleidoscope
This article is called Kaleidoscopes - I wrote it in the spring when the season was changing and I was going through changes in the direction of my life. Wanting to settle down as opposed to being career oriented, knowing what it was like to be committed, changes in the studios I taught yoga at, just lots of changes and evolving and everything worked out then. I brought out the rusty work and tweaked it a little to be more personalized and current, this one was turned down from EJ but that's okay, it's still beautiful in my eyes :)
Sometimes in the midst of brokenness we find closure and new beginnings. As cliché as the phrases When one door shuts, another door opens. Or, Eyes are put in front of our heads so we don’t look back. They are really true. If our lives were stagnant and never changing, WE would be never changing. No growth, no spiritual journey, no new intelligence and no challenges.
I like to think of my life as a kaleidoscope. All of my struggles are the beautiful facets magnified and ever changing. Failed tests are triangular shaped, failed relationships are zig-zags (red, obviously), unreached goals are open circles, deaths (family, education, ideas, etc) are all unique in their own shape and colors. I am constantly adding to my kaleidoscope everyday because there are positive things in there too that are struggles that I have overcome like education, work related successes, financial success, etc. Those are the bright happy colors where as current struggles are more muted and soft. So maybe your kaleidoscope has all sorts of beautiful shapes like squares, triangles, circles, jacks, marbles, thumbtacks and all of the colors red, purple, blue, green, pink and they all mean different things. All of these shapes dance before our eyes making the most beautiful images we have ever seen because this is our life in front of our eyes.
Everyone’s kaleidoscope is different because nobody leads the same life and everyone struggles with different things. If you think of an actual kaleidoscope the picture is ever changing, just like we are.
I can remember my favorite images from an old kaleidoscope toy I had as a child and never did I see the same image, but I remember it. Sometimes the kaleidoscope changes very quickly and the image of beauty is gone in the blink of an eye. Sometimes the images slowly change over time and before you know it there is a subtle change in what you were looking at. This is life!
As our Kaleidoscope changes we open our minds to the next beautiful image and when our life changes we welcome the opportunity for growth. We celebrate non-attachment. Allowing our bodies and our minds to change with the seasons and personal growth.
As the winter approaches and we open our hearts to change let's not forget our most favorite images from our Kaleidoscope but just allow the opportunity for new images to form. We can only hope that allowing change, growth and opportunity in will provide us with the most magical, whimsical, delightful life our Kaleidoscope can dream up.
